Seems like the E39 M5 in the previous build thread upset some of you. No worries, here's a fully modernized twin turbo E36 to make you feel better.

That N55 is sweet . And reliable enough to DD! The interior has been fully modernized. It even had iDrive! I would've preferred vaders but sport seats out of an E90 are good too. Easily tune it to 450whp and a *shitload* of torque.....

lolwut.

If it had a manual, I could start to buy into it. I admire the dude's passion and enthusiasm... but it seems like a terrible idea.

Yeah I was surprised he kept it auto. If I was doing a build this big the first thing I'd do is a 6MT swap.

More reliable than any E36 will be lol, and much more reliable than an N54.

wrong... the M50 family is much more reliable than the N55 and N54... They also have way less failures that can cause catastrophic engine failure.......'

Have you seen that happens to the N54 and N55 when the belt slips/shreds? what happens when the PCV system gets clogged?

I'm talking about today. E36's aren't exactly new anymore while you can still go down to the BMW dealership and get a CPO'd N55.

His E36 with an N55 is probably now more reliable than it would be with it's most likely high mileage M50.

And yeah, the N54/N55 isn't gonna be as reliable as a lets say a 4 cylinder Honda accord, but you really can't compare the reliability of a NA I6 that's over 20 years old to a twin turbo I6 that was first used in 2011. The N55 is so much more advanced, offering much more power while still being more economical.

Sorry if it sounds like I'm ranting, I drive an N52 E90 and it gets pretty annoying when every "bro" in their V6 Mustang/Camaro or POS riced out car cracks reliability jokes at every gas station/red light when I don't even drive a 335i.

that's what you're doing!

and the N52 isn't exempt... It suffers from a host of intake manifold and PCV clogging problems... By comparison, the M5o is a saint of an engine.... from my perspective

Damn well you got me there haha.

My 328i has been flawless for the past 67k miles. Only problems I had was a dead battery and a cracked windshield. I don't want to argue about the N52 as I'm obviously very biased, but it's an engine that nearly all owners praise and are completely satisfied with (according to me spending large amounts of time on E90post and bimmerfest).
